Tools for the Job
Paul's Story - Paul was living in a shelter with his family and working as a handyman for an independent contractor. He spent a significant amount of his wages renting tools from his boss, and was unable to afford permanent housing on the income that was left over. He applied to us for assistance in purchasing his own tools and was approved. Soon after receiving his tools, he was able to move his family out of the shelter and into their own place. The last time we were in contact with Paul, he had started up his own successful contracting business.
Bethany's Story - Bethany was living in a group home when she came to us for assistance. She wanted to return to work as a cook, but could not afford the required uniform. We assisted her with the items she needed and she soon began her job. When we last saw Bethany, she had moved into her own place and she told us she’s never been happier.
"Words can only begin to express how much you are appreciated."

He applied to our Education program to complete payment on his school tuition and was approved for the amount of his shortfall. When we last followed up with Dion, he was living on his own and had just opened his own barbershop.
Joe's Story - Joe was couch-surfing when he applied to us for assistance in order to complete his courses at a local barber school. He finished school and obtained a full-time job. He currently has his own apartment and volunteers with us on a regular basis.

Your Own Business
Adam's Story - Adam was staying on a friend's couch while trying to get his life together. He owned a mobile shoe-shine cart and wanted to start a business shoe-shining in the Minneapolis skyway system. He wanted help with his business, so he applied to our Your Own Business program. He was approved and completed a 16-week course to put the finishing touches on his business plan. When we last saw Adam, he had just sold the shoe-shine business for $75,000, was living on his own, and developing a new company for sale.
Julie's Story - Julie was living in a bad neighborhood in a nearby city. She frequently heard gunshots at night and her children were terrified. She couldn’t afford to live in a better area on her income, so one day she packed up her van and moved with her kids to Minneapolis. She moved into a local shelter because she had nowhere else to go. She applied to us for assistance in starting a doll-making business. Julie has successfully launched her business and is living with her children in her own apartment.

Women in Medicine
Azia's Story - Azia and her daughter were getting excited to move into their new apartment when the day before they were scheduled to move out, they were told that their lease had fallen through. With nowhere else to go, Aziza moved with her daughter into a shelter. While there, she decided to return to nursing, for which she had a certificate. She searched for a job and found one but was unable to purchase the scrubs necessary to start. We helped her purchase two sets of scrubs for her to begin work. When we last spoke to Aziza, she was working full time and living in her own apartment.
Amy's Story - Amy was a single mother who came upon hard times. She came to Minnesota hoping for better opportunities in the medical field. Once she moved, she discovered that she needed to be recertified in CPR in order to obtain employment. While staying at the local shelter she applied to us for assistance. We covered the cost for her CPR class, which she passed with ease. With the certificate completed she found a full-time job with benefits in her field. Amy and her son are currently living in their own place.
