As a young man, Robert joined a gang, hoping to find security and community. Instead, he spent time in prison and had to do the hardest thing any parent could imagine- bury his young son.

Robert visited Small Sums after learning about us through our partner organization, Mile in my Shoes. With their help, Robert found a job as a barber, a skill he'd learned during his time in prison. Now, he needed our support to get the required tools for his new job.

Small Sums provided Robert with everything he needed to succeed as an independent barber! Because of the support of our generous donors, Robert received a Small Sums "Tools for the Job" package, including work gear, non-slip shoes, clippers, razors, a cape, and transportation.

It was an honor to serve Robert and the hundreds of others like him. Despite all that he has had to overcome, Robert remains committed to sharing joy and hope with his community. He is currently living in stable housing, fully employed, and sharing his infectious smile will all who cross his path.
